I'd like you to
meet my little buddy, Shorty. He and his friend, Sputnik, come over and
stay with me when their mom is out of town.
Shorty is SO adorable. He bares his teeth and pretend growls at you and
jumps at your face (it's so funny! He thinks he's so tough!)
On Valentines Day, 2010, he was attacked by a pit bull. He's blind now, and his mom wanted to know if I'll still dog-sit him (of COURSE I will). Here are her words:
It has been a rough 3 weeks for Shorty. On Valentine's day he was attacked by a pit bull in front of our house. We were coming back from our walk when out of nowhere this dog jumped on Shorty. The pit bull didn't have the leash on (the owner said that he had one on but just came off) and just locked his jaw on Shorty's head. It was so horrible.
Shorty has healed well but lost most of his sight. We just came back from an ophthalmologist and said that he can barely see on his left eye and the right eye doesn't have anything at all. It is so sad.
The reason I'm posting this page on my dog care / boarding web-site is perhaps
someone who is considering purchasing a pit bull will bump into this page, or
someone who's considering (God forbid) breeding their pit bull will see this and
realize that they will be LIABLE for their dog if and when it attacks, maims or
kills another little dog or a child.
I rather
imagine Shorty's mom is suing the pants off the owner of the pit bull that
attacked this little guy.
PLEASE DON'T BREED PIT BULLS!
And don't send me any e-mails explaining how ALL pit bulls aren't bad, and how your pit bull is a sweetie-pie - good with children and babies - a friend to all. These dogs are bred to fight to the death - they're killers - and if you leave your pit bull alone with your 2-year old grandchild you may pay the ultimate price.
The dog
pound is FULL of pit bulls and dogs that are 50% pit bull. People buy
those cute little pit bull puppies, but the first time the pit bull growls at
their new baby, the dog goes straight to the pound. If you must have a
pit bull, please visit the pound and adopt an unwanted dog - and get some REALLY
GOOD liability insurance.
